Slime molds!

So the other day I found a website with really cool pictures of slime molds. Slime molds are amoebas that are similar to fungi, and they look really cool. I've included a couple of the pictures that I liked best from the site, but I highly recommend that you go to the site and look at the rest for yourself (as there are about 40 pictures there).

These sorts of things are why I love microbiology. Nature is just plain awesome.

(Edit: Apparently when you link to online pictures, it's hard to control the size--therefore some of these photos don't actually fit on my blog. Just another reason to go see the site. Seriously, check it out.)

Yeah, those last two are a picture of the same thing at different times. Cool, eh?

(Edit: I figured out how to change the image size, so I did. Now you can see the whole thing. Hooray!)

Dude, nice Russian slime molds. I love the time lapse shot of the one that makes me want to eat a delicious bowl of Honeycomb.

I got your message on Celi's phone. Thanks for the words of encouragement, bro. I appreciate it. Just call me up on Celi's phone (or leave a message) when you find something out and I'll spring into action ASAP.

Oh yeah, if Celi's phone doesn't work, the Bat Signal is just as effective...

I think I looked at these too early in the morning. For some reason the 2nd one made my stomach turn. The unknown something dripping from the ends grossed me out. Even if it is a pretty shade of pink!
The last 2 made me hungry too... except for pretzels, not honeycomb. :)

Nothing about these pictures is appetizing.

Wow. This is why I didn't go into science.

But thanks for sharing anyway.

I think wow! What kind of slime are they and what do they come from? I'm sure it was probably not extraterrestial so was it from some slugs? or maybe a snail? My mind has got to know! That is a fascinating work of art! Thanks for sharing!

O.K. so I checked out the site and it said they are mushrooms that grow on the surface of plants. Go five a day! Makes you want to eat something boxed and processed doesn't it?
